This standard refers to doors used for entry into units, common area rooms, and other locations where there is a presumption of privacy or security between locations (e.g., from the hallway into a unit but not within a unit). This standard refers to the physical condition of the door frame and surface, including holes in the door’s surface, gaps, seals, and other physical damage that impacts the door’s integrity.

  • Entry Door seals include both manufacturer-installed and aftermarket seals, gaskets, or stripping.
  • Entry doors designed without a seal, gasket, or stripping are not considered a deficiency.
  1. NSPIRE Entry Door Standard #10, “Entry Door component is damaged, inoperable, or missing and it does not limit the door’s ability to provide privacy or protection from weather or infestation.” NSPIRE standards include the following examples, but are not “limited to”. This suggests that this deficiency would include broad authority to cite any condition fitting the general description of a damaged or missing component not impacting privacy or security.
    1. Insulated glass with a compromised seal;
    2. Auxiliary (i.e., additional) installed lock;
    3. Installed security device;
    4. Strike plate or latch assembly;
    5. Weather stripping on an interior door
    6. Casing or decorative trim
